Kudremukh Trek

There are many companies in Bengaluru that organize various treks in Karnataka as well as whole of India. Chose to go through a company called Plan The Unplanned or PTU for short. Some organizers start on Friday evening and bring you back on Sunday evening. With PTU, it started in early hours of Saturday and ended in early hours of Monday. One reason I chose PTU was that its pickup point was near to my home. Journey to the trek started on Saturday November 30 at 5:30 AM in a tempo-traveler. Had tasty breakfast at restaurant Kichchana Halli Mane at Koppa on Bangalore – Mangalore high way. I came to know later that the restaurant belongs to popular Kannada actor Sudip. In fact, you can see his photos on the walls of the restaurant. We stopped at Sri Annapoorneshwari Coffee shop at 12:30 PM for a few minutes of relaxing as a restaurant for lunch was expected only after another two hours. It is a small shop where you can get freshly made various kinds of lemon drinks an

Har Ki Dun Trek in Himalayas (May 04 - May 12, 2019)

The moment an ex-colleague told me that he would be going on Har Ki Dun trek, I immediately decided to go along with him to the great Himalayan mountains that I studied about them in the school text books many decades ago! I didn't want to miss the opportunity of seeing the Himalayas and walking on them at least once in my life time. Booked the trek with Himalaya Shelters , Dehradun , without a second thought. Though I was a bit worried about my fitness, I was confident of trekking because I have been walking and doing exercises for more than a decade more or less regularly. The trek lasted for 7 days where 2 days were for travelling by vehicle from Dehradun to a trekking starting point at a village called Taluka and back to Dehradun. So, the real trekking was only for 5 days. Walked a total distance of 54 KM from Taluka to Har Ki Dun and back during the trek. Trekking to Har Ki Dun View from hotel at Sankri The day 1 of the trek started on Sunday M

Cool Madikeri

As holidays for schools were about to end, my family and I wanted to visit a cool place to beat the heat of Bengaluru! Though we visited Madikeri individually, all of us wanted to visit it together, spend quality time and visit important places of the town and nearby Bhagamandala, Talakaveri and various waterfalls in leisure before monsoon sets in. We started our trip on Friday May 26, 2017 after booking a home-stay in Madikeri for 3 nights / 4 days. First, a shock by TravelGuru one day before my trip! I booked home-stay in Madikeri through TravelGuru a week before my journey. Required payment was done and the booking was confirmed by TravelGuru about four days in advance. I used the travel website a few times before and every time booking was OK without any problems. After my family members pressed me to check with the home-stay owner directly one day before my journey, I shocked to know that the owner did not receive any intimation regarding my booking from TravelGuru! I was reall
